Khin is a 17 year old from Burma who was born with a condition called Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a debilitating congenital condition where your blood vessels are inappropriately connected to your heart. 

In TOF, there are 4 main circulatory problems:

• Pulmonary stenosis, or narrowing of the exit from the right side of the heart that pumps blood to the lungs
• Ventricular Septal Defect - where there is a hole in the middle of the heart that normally separates the left side of the heart that pumps blood to the body and the right side that pumps to the lungs. When this happens, blood will mix and you will get un-oxygenated blood that gets inappropriately pumped to your body
• Right Ventricular Hypertrophy - or thickened right side of your heart, which is caused by the right side of your heart pumping against high blood pressures
• Overriding aorta, in which the main blood vessel exiting the heart gets blood from both the left and right side of the heart, which further worsens the mixing of the un-oxygenated blood

These 4 things combine to make it really hard to get oxygen to your body, and eventually leads to heart failure.

Fortunately Khin had her heart repaired and will be able to live a normal life!

Since her surgery, she is reportedly much more active and no longer constantly dizzy. "I still want to become a teacher and teach students from grades four to eight", she says.
