Coffee with a purpose ZDOGGMD, a physician and medical parody artist has a show on youtube called Incident Report, where he discusses current events related to healthcare. We were fortunate enough to be features on his show discussing the controversial regulations on coffee in the state of California. Check it out! Excited to announce our newest coffee! Dulci Vitrioli is a dark roast, single origin coffee straight from the Chiapas region of Mexico. In contrast to our first coffee, this dark roast has a more stereotypical coffee flavor. It has a strong bitter bite with chocolatey accents and a sexy, smoky aroma. If you are a Starbucks fan, then this coffee is for you. In Chiapas, the region in Mexico where Dulci Vitrioli comes from, you find coffee that has a chocolatey, medium body. It has many small producers that do a lot of the coffee processing by hand. Many of them even produce their own electricity to support their delicious coffee bean. The story of EtherIn 1846, Dr Morton, a Boston area dentist, used a concoction of inhaled ether to anesthetize a patient during a tooth extraction. It was so good at eliminating the pain associated with his procedure that he knew he was onto something special. Word spread and before he knew it, he was in front of dozens of surgeons a the famous Massachusetts General Hospital, preparing to anesthetize a patient that needed a tumor removed from his neck. Dr Morton Administered the inhaled ether while the surgeon removed the tumor. The audience looked on in awe as the patient was not screaming out in pain. When the patient awoke, he described an experience with minimal pain, "as though the skin had been scratched with a hoe," to which the surgeon Dr Collins famously exclaimed: 'Gentlemen, this is no humbug!' Dulci VitrioliIn honor of Dr Morton and this incredible development in the field of surgery, we have created Dulci Vitrioli. This latin phrase is borrowed from German physician and botanist Dr Valerius Cordus from the early 1500s that described the earliest known preparation of ether that he called oleum dulci vitrioli or "sweet oil of vitriol."
So what are you waiting for!? Go here and buy some of Dr Morton's honorary coffee and cheers to the fact that surgery doesn't hurt. "I will be very happy to see Catherine receiving treatment and enrolling in school."- Catherine's mother Catherine is a three-year-old girl from Tanzania. She is a genuinely happy and easy-going kid. Her father works as a vegetable vendor and her mother sells grain. Catherine was diagnosed with a condition called acquired genu valgum, where her legs are bent inward at the knees causing pain and resulting in lifelong deformity. It is a relatively common disease in the developing world, and can result from drinking water with elevated levels or fluorine, called fluorosis. Proceeds from, your coffee purchases have been donated to fund her surgery. FluorosisFluorosis can cause multiple developmental problems, especially dental mottling and genu valgum. In many areas around the world where the water supply is not regulated and analyzed, elevated levels of fluoride are often present. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones or teeth, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. The condition prevents her from playing and enrolling in school. In 1995, researchers traveled to remote villages in India to study the high prevalence of observed genu valgum. The two villages, Tilaipani and Hirapur, with a combined population of about 1,200, had extremely high percentage of their population with genu valgum and dental fluorosis. ResultsWhat they found was staggering. In Tilaipani over 50% of kids under 20 years old had genu valgum and 73% had dental fluorosis. In comparison, the village of Hirapur only had 6% of people below 20 years old with genu valgum. When they analyzed the drinking water in the different villages, they found that the fluoride levels in the Tilaipani water were 9-10x higher than in Hirapur, which likley explains the dramatic difference in genu valgum prevalence.
So thanks to your caffeine habit, Catherine will soon be able to play with her friends without discomfort. - Try Pheo Coffee today and help fund medical care around the world. |
